Advisor, DRIVE Milwaukee
Region Sales Manager, Kellogg’s
“I was approached by the team with an idea to ‘change lives through athletics.’ Given my background in sports, from my experiences in grade school to playing NCAA Division I college basketball at Marquette University, I knew firsthand the value of athletic participation. Sports teach kids how to work, how to set goals, and how to battle through adversity. After they walked me through the program, I was 100% on board. This is an unbelievable opportunity for the youth of Milwaukee to grow in all areas of their life.
I’m consulting the development of DRIVE to make sure it accomplishes the goals it has laid out. Integral to my role will be working with the team to help construct programming and fundraising activities that clearly align with the mission of the organization.
My hopes are that DRIVE becomes a leader in the non-profit sector in Milwaukee. My aspirations are to grow the sponsorship base, increase the number and variety of programs available, and be a shining example of the power of sports in the lives of young men and women. Basketball has made me the man I am today. The same workouts that will be offered to these kids, were the ones that instilled in me, the drive to be the best. I hope to bring an energy and skill set to DRIVE that will fuel this program for years to come.”
John is a hard worker and generates tremendous enthusiasm with his attitude and actions. He has used this attitude and outlook to climb the ladder of Kellogg’s, Inc. to become the youngest Region Manager in the entire company.
An organized, thorough, and detail-driven leader, John knows what it takes to motivate people and get them to meet and exceed their potential. He frequently compares life to basketball — working hard, working smart, and working consistently through adversity and challenges are similar, whether in life or on the court.
John was a 3-year varsity starter at Marshfield High School, earning a NCAA DII Scholarship to Minnesota-Crookston before walking on for a year at Marquette University under Tom Crean, current Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Indiana University.
While completing his degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurship at Marquette University, John was a head coach for the Wisconsin Playmakers AAU program, as well as an assistant varsity coach at Marquette High School. In addition to his coaching duties, John was also a skill development trainer, working with players who currently play at the NCAA DI level.
John currently resides in Chicago, while pursuing his Masters in Business Administration through Loyola University Chicago. He makes frequent trips back to Milwaukee.
When he played basketball as a kid, he pretended he was Michael Jordan. His favorite subject: math. Favorite movie: Pursuit of Happyness. Best player ever faced: Dwayne Wade (when he was in college). Best basketball advice given to him: “Hard work will pay off.”
